BPD arrest 19-year-old suspect, charge felony evading: Stolen vehicle leads to high-speed pursuit

A Dec. 12 high-speed pursuit by the Blythe Police Department (BPD) in response to a reported stolen car ended with 19-year-old suspect Austin Thomas Georgatos – of Glendale, Ariz. – charged with alleged felony violations of Vehicle Code (VC) 10851(a), taking a vehicle without owner consent and VC 2800.2, evading police.

“On Dec. 12, 2019, at about 6:45 a.m. Blythe Police Dispatch received a report of a vehicle theft that had just occurred at the EZ Stop Mobil at 220 S. Lovekin,” stated BPD’s incident release. “During the call the reporting party stated the vehicle entered onto the I10 Freeway traveling eastbound.”

Once the vehicle was located, a two and a half mile pursuit ensued before ending in east Blythe.

“After a two and a half mile, high speed pursuit, the stolen vehicle became stuck on a curb near the Hampton Inn at 2011 E. Donlon Blvd,” stated BPD. “The driver of the vehicle, 19 year old Austin Georgatos from Glendale Arizona, was arrested and booked into the Blythe Jail for Vehicle Theft and Felony Evading.”

According to Riverside County jail records, Georgatos was booked with a bail of $100,000 and a hearing date scheduled for the morning of Dec. 16 at the Superior Court Larson Justice Center in Indio, Calif.
