FROM STAFF REPORTS
A vehicle crash on Oct. 26 left one person with significant injuries, the Blythe Police Department reports.
At about 9:42 a.m., BPD received several 911 calls in reference to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Lovekin Boulevard and Chanslorway.
Officers found a red Ford F-150 and a silver Chevrolet pickup were involved in the collision. The Ford was driven by Guy Gnatek, 59, and the Chevrolet was driven by Alexander Naranjo, 70. Both men are from Blythe.
BPD notes that the investigation is still ongoing. However, it appears that Gnatek was driving the Ford southbound on Lovekin Boulevard, approaching the Chanslorway intersection.
Gnatek had a green light, and proceeded through the intersection, BPD reports.
Naranjo was driving the Chevrolet westbound on Chanslorway approaching the intersection. Naranjo failed to stop at the red traffic light, entering the intersection where the Chevrolet collided with the Ford, BPD reports. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.
Gnatek suffered significant injuries and was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Naranjo refused medical treatment at the scene, but was later driven to Palo Verde Hospital by private vehicle. Both vehicles received major damage and were towed from the scene.
