Every day, committed educators and supportive staff contribute to the growth and furthering of Palo Verde Unified School District’s (PVUSD) mission and vision for a better tomorrow.
That’s why, for their outstanding work, influence and the resourceful change they’ve each added into making this community better, Meliton Sanchez III, Gene DeShazo, Timothy Slagan, Susan Fleming and Karina De La Peña were all awarded Outstanding Educator of the Year awards at the Dec. 10 board meeting.
Receiving this merit of achievement and a plaque to commemorate this special recognition, PVUSD Superintendent Dr. Charles Bush presented the five individuals with awards before guests, family, friends and students.
To the governing board, Bush expressed: “This is a real honor for me to be able to make these announcements for our Educator of the Year nominees. (However,) you need to know, that this year was particularly difficult. We had many, many people receive (a number) of nominations in the different categories, and we had a lot of nominations (…) So the decision was difficult, (but) we can only have one person in each category, and (although) it took us a while, we got it down to that one person.”
For the following categories, this year’s recipients were: Certificated Administrator-Sanchez, Classified Employee-DeShazo, Confidential-Slagan, School Counselor-Fleming and Principal-De La Peña.
Bush added: “All of our people are working so very hard and doing such great work to benefit the students we serve.”
In recognition of the valuable contributions PVUSD receives daily, because of people like Sanchez, DeShazo, Slagan, Fleming and De La Peña, Bush kindly thanked each of them for their hard work and the impact they’ve made within the district.
