Palo Verde College (PVC) Foundation leadership, campus officials, and students were on-hand Aug. 20 at the John O. Crain College Services Center for the live 2019 Laptop Awards drawing, held during PVC’s Week of Welcome (WOW) events.

As part of the PVC Foundation’s continued mission toward supporting students’ success in academics and higher education, the annual drawing again brought an eager crowd together at the Pirate’s Cove to award the 30 Acer Laptops, each valued at $300.

“We had over a hundred applicants (this year),” noted PVC Vice President of Administrative Services and PVC Foundation Executive Director Stephanie Slagan in presenting the drawing alongside PVC Foundation President Marcella Thomas.

Entrants from the PVC Needles campus were also included in the laptop scholarship drawing.

“The Palo Verde College Foundation supports educational excellence by assisting and encouraging investment in the development and growth of educational opportunities at (the) Palo Verde Community College District,” states the PVC Foundation’s mission statement. “Investment in education at (PVC) is an investment in the future of Blythe and Needles, California.”

To qualify, enrolled PVC students were required to have a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.5 or above; have completed 12 units within the previous two semesters; be enrolled in 12 units for the fall of 2019; and not have received a PVC Foundation Laptop Scholarship previously.

Along with a Pirates carrying bag and USB drive, PVC’s campus IT team were also made available to help winners set-up their new computers with email accounts and Microsoft Office Suite software – for free.

In addition to the 30 laptop awards, a special scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was presented to PVC Nursing & Allied Health student Jade Smith.

“Congratulations! On behalf of the California Community College Student Financial Aid Administrators Association (CCCSFAAA), I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected to receive a $1,000.00 Marianna Deeken ‘Well it Depends’ CCCSFAAA Scholarship for this 2018-2019 academic year,” stated CCCSFAAA President Tammera M. Shinar’s letter. “We are very pleased that we have the opportunity to award this scholarship and we wish you the very best with your future and education. We are rooting for you!”
