Two arrests following alleged armed altercation: BPD respond to incident at local DPSS office

The local Department of Social Services (DPSS) office in west Blythe was the scene of an alleged armed altercation on Dec. 10 as Blythe Police Department (BPD) officers responded.

"On Dec. 10, 2019, at about 9:49 a.m. Blythe Police Dispatch received several 911 calls reporting two black males fighting in the 200 Block of N. Carlton and one of the males had a gun," stated BPD. "Officers from the Blythe Police Department arrived and detained 21 year old Markeith Johnson and 19 year old Germain Vaughn, both from Blythe."

A firearm was located following a search of Vaughn and Johnson by BPD.

"Johnson and Vaughn were arrested and booked into the Blythe Jail on felony charges," stated BPD.

Johnson currently has a scheduled Jan. 14 arraignment hearing at the Riverside County Superior Courthouse in Blythe.

Vaughn's Dec. 12 felony incustody arraignment hearing at the Riverside County Superior Courthouse in Blythe saw the 19-year-old plea not guilty to a filed charge alleging a felony violation of Penal Code (PC) section 245(a)(2), assault with a gun.

The court scheduled Vaughn's felony settlement conference for Dec. 17, with bail ordered at $25,000 before being remanded back into custody.
